     Moose Legionnaires,

I want to personally thank each of you that have sponsored a new or former member into Blue Ridge Moose Legion # 82 this year.  The more members we have makes our work easier as the workload is divided with everyone.

In addition, I want to thank everyone both Men & Women that have supported and attended our celebrations so far this year.  We have had a great time with fun and fellowship at these celebrations. I invite you to attend our next celebration at the Salem Family Center on January 7, 2012.  I am sure you will have a great time, and bring a friend to be enrolled into our Blue Ridge Moose Legion # 82 that day.  As you know if you sponsor two Members, your dues are paid for the following year.  I hope to see you January 7, 2012.

Fraternally,
Doug Slayton

President

MEMBERSHIP

It would really be nice to have Blue Ridge #82 achieve the #1 position in membership and member writing in the state.  If every current member could just write ONE MORE new member, it could easily be achieved.  Please think of an idea(s) for increasing membership, and submit it in writing to The Asst. Secretary for your Lodge Committee.  What do you think of the current membership program of cash rewards to writers?  What do you think about raffling off an item at celebrations to pay for the cash rewards?
When you find a seemingly good prospect for membership, do you evaluate him?  Would you invite him into your home?  Is he a current good Lodge worker who is involved with activities?
Thank you for your efforts and contributions.  Keep up the good work.

Jim Wiles

Vice President

CSI – RETENTION

“RETENTION”-----“OUR MOST IMPORTANT ASSET”

Moose Legion Brothers of BR#82

Our Moose Legion Fraternity can only survive through your continued support and dedication.

It only takes a few guys to get together on a particular date and time and call our Moose Legion Brothers who are in the arrears.  If we can help them out because of monies that they do not have at this time…then, let us do it.  If our Brothers tell us that they do not see anything to the Moose Legion…………………           “THEN WE AS MOOSE LEGIONARIES … HAVE FAILED”

We cannot afford to let this happen. We cannot afford to let down Mooseheart and Moosehaven.

We cannot not afford to let down our Lodges on improvements for our members.

Simply put, you and I need to “Create Some Interest” for our Moose Legionaries.  If our Brothers tell us that they are not interested, and then we ask them.. What do you think we can do together to make our Moose Legion stronger?

Listen to what they are saying…then make a plan….get the Brothers to commit, and tell them how

helpful they can be.

Fraternally,
Jack Lancaster

Jr. Past President

We still have lodges that are not collecting Endowment Fund. We all made a promise that we would take care of our children at Mooseheart and our seniors at Moosehaven.

We have asked every lodge to pay their share of the Van/Computer project on or before the October Celebration so we can pay this ML by November 15th.

Applications are slow coming in. Each lodge has the eligibility list Let’s work the list as these are Moose Brothers who need to be told about the second degree and then invited to belong.

Thank you for you do for your lodge and Blue Ridge Moose Legion.

Fraternally,
Robbie Robertson
Blue Ridge Moose Legion #82 Secretary

Well another Moose Year has begun, A new Membership Campaign has been instituted, But there’s still one that will remain…..NEVER PAY DUES AGAIN!!!!!
Sign two members into your Lodge or Moose Legion, and your dues are paid for the next year. What better incentive could there be? That is just the International Campaign. Blue Ridge Moose Legion #82 has an In-House Campaign as well. A chance of $25 per quarter or $100 for a year.

That’s all for Membership from me at this time. I thank you for allowing me to be your Chaplain this year. I know it will be a very fulfilling experience for me and we just might have a little fun along the way. Our next Celebration will be at Lynchburg South #1727 on July 9, 2011, This is our Annual Drawdown for the Conferral Staff. So come on out and support your Moose Legion.

Fraternally,
Kelly Huffman

Chaplain

Special Olympics and the Virginia Moose Association

" Continuing the Tradition "

Special Olympics is a year-round program of sports and training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.  The program, however, is about more than sports.  At the heart of Special Olympics lies a prototype for transforming our communities.

The partnership between the Virginia Moose Association and Special Olympics began over seventeen years ago.  The first games had five or six teams playing behind the Bedford Moose Lodge #1897.  The event has grown to accommodate thirty plus teams on eight fields located throughout the city and county of Bedford.  Not only do teams travel to compete, but also ASA certified umpires travel from Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia to be part of this special weekend.  The Virginia Moose Association along with the Blue Ridge Moose Legion generously provides housing, meals, and the complete weekend for all these outstanding young adults.  We celebrate on Saturday night with Opening Ceremonies on the field culminating with a fabulous display of fireworks and dance.

The planning and hard work by local members of the Loyal Order of Moose and Moose Intl. along with Special Olympics of Virginia and the American Softball Association has made this small tournament, with the development of regional and area tournaments, into a national tournament.  The culmination of which is to be held at Mooseheart, our Child City.
