Membership Reports
from your Regional Manager - Matt Grove |
|
To All Lodge Officers and Members
updated and posted 10/11/2008
Dear Brothers,
Attached are the latest membership and
quota numbers. Every lodge is to be congratulated for the
outstanding month of September that we had. We had 90% of our
lodges report at least one member. Virginia had a plus of 120
applications compared to September of 2007, which put us number
one in the fraternity in that category. We now have a plus of 160
for the year putting us back in 5th place in the nation. And we
have 100.81% active members, which is also an increase compared to
April 30 figures. So give yourselves, and your member sponsors, a
big pat on the back for this terrific month.
But Lord knows we cannot let up. In these difficult times we need
every new idea, increased functions and activities, and a lot of
good customer service to get and keep members. Brothers, we must
not let up now. Last October was a big month production wise, with
over 500 applications reported. We must at least break even. Hope
you are running some attractive in house campaigns to keep those
sponsors signing up those members.
I would like to thank the lodges and Chapters that are
sending people to the seminar in Las Vegas in November. I am sorry
that the rest could not think it important enough to realize that
outstanding customer service is a vital key to retaining members.
I will be sending in certain people into lodges just to see how
your operation is being handled and how your servers treat
members. They will also be checking to see if people are over
served or politely cutoff. They will be sending me a report on
their findings. However, you will not know who they are. Just
wanted to let you know in advance. Oh, by the way, out of 95
lodges and 84 Chapters we only have 26 people registered for the
seminar.
We have a new lodge in Virginia. On Sunday, September
28 at 2 PM, a new Moose Service Center was instituted in
Walkerton, VA. Walkerton lodge 2679 had 26 seated in the class and
a total of 42 applications. State President Ken Emerson spoke to
the new members and Old Dominion Moose Legion President Dave
Bardon presented a donation of $200.00 to the new lodge on behalf
of Moose Legion 148. Also present District 9 President Paul Davis,
148 Director Sam Barnhill and Secretary Jim Cridlin, and the
Governor and Administrator from neighboring King William lodge.
Walkerton will be a part of District 3 and Old Dominion 148.

MESSAGE FROM THE VMA
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
Dear Lodge
Officers,
We only
have only have 6 months left in this year’s membership campaign.
From the monthly reports that Regional Manager sends to all of us,
things look as if to be going well but there is always room for
improvement. What is good to see are lodges that normally are not
in the top ten in the state but are now in the top ten ratings? So
that means that something is working right for them. Also when you see
lodges year after year in the top ten that means that someone is working
membership program. For what ever the reason, it is working.
One example, The Lynchburg South Moose Family Center has done a
wonderful job in sponsoring members so far this year. And what I
understand the sports committee is a big factor why they are doing so
well. And other lodge’s throughout the state, the reason
membership promotion is working well for them is because of family
activities and family dinners. These are tools that will help you
be successful. One thing that impress’s me is talking to lodges
and the reason they say why membership is better that usual is because
of their “IN HOUSE MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGNS”. These are campaigns that
you promote with in your lodge.
Moose
International has two wonderful campaigns at the present time. One
announced back in June in Vegas which is called “Beyond Belief” and the
other day we received a packet from International about the new campaign
for the months November 1, 2008 to April 30, 2009. This one is
called “Become a Moose Tracker”. Please make sure the campaign
poster is up in your lodge and ask your membership chairman to write an
article on these campaigns in your next newsletter. Remember your
newsletter is a great tool for getting information out to all of the
members.
The VMA
also has a great membership campaign for this year. Shown below is
a copy of our campaign which is available for downloading and printing.
If you would, please, could each of you ad this to your next newsletter.
I thank you
for your support and keep up the good job in signing members.
Fraternally
yours,
Ronald K.

Sponsors of One Member
During the
'Beyond Belief' campaign which began May 1, 2008 and runs through
April 30, 2009, in recognition of sponsoring just one new member
applicant, Lodge and Chapter sponsors will receive the distinctive
satin gold-tone 'Beyond Belief' lapel pin. These pins are being
supplied to all Lodge Administrators and Chapter recorders. The
Administrator or Recorder should ensure that each sponsor receives
ONE 'Beyond Belief' lapel pin upon submitting their FIRST new or
former member application and fee during the campaign. Please
remember, this campaign started on May 1, 2008, so it is likely
there are sponsors who have already qualified to receive ONE of
these pins.Sponsors of
Three Members
Brothers and
Co-workers who sponsor three members during the campaign will earn
entry into weekly random drawings to be conducted on Thursdays,
beginning July 10, 2008, with one Lodge sponsor and one Chapter
sponsor each week, receiving a $200.00 US Bank Visa gift card. Once
their qualifying third applicant has been successfully transmitted
to Moose International, qualified members will be entered into the
next drawing, and all remaining drawings during the 44-week program.
Each subsequent member sponsored earns an additional entry for the
sponsor in each of the remaining drawings. The final drawing will
occur on May 7, 2009.
Sponsors of Five Members
Lodge members who
earn membership in the Moose International 5 Club, by sponsoring
five applicants in the 'Beyond Belief' campaign, will receive their
personalized and laminated 2008-2009 Moose International 5 Club
wallet card. Additionally, each of these Brothers will receive a
rugged, compact steel flashlight that utilizes 12 ultra bright Light
Emitting Diodes instead of a traditional flashlight bulb. This light
is provided to our 5 clubbers courtesy of their respective Moose
Association.
Chapter members who earn membership in the Women of the Moose 5
Club, by sponsoring five applicants in the 'Beyond Belief' campaign,
will receive their personalized 2008-2009 Women of the Moose 5 Club
wallet card. Additionally, each of these Co-workers will receive a
lovely 'Beyond Belief' pendant and necklace.
Earning membership in the 2008-2009 5 Club also qualifies members of
the 25 Club to receive an invitation to the 25 Club Event to be held
in conjunction with next May's International Moose Convention in
Chicago. |

New Application Including Alternative Enrollment Obligation
The Membership Department has once again revised the
membership application form and the newly designed applications will be
available for both the Loyal Order of Moose and the Women of the Moose
in the near future. This time, at first glance, you cannot fail to
notice that the entire application has been redesigned, and for good
reason.
The new application will support the "alternative" method of enrollment
approved by both the Grand Council and the Supreme Council. This will
include, the applicant's acceptance of a written obligation, which is
conditioned, upon approval of the Application Review Committee, and the
favorable vote of the respective lodge or chapter membership.
There will be just one application form for both men and women
applicants. The application has a box to indicate whether the applicant
is a man applying to the Loyal Order of Moose or a woman applying to the
Women of the Moose. These revised applications will be available online
at the www.mooseintl.org website
on August 1, 2007, for the implementation of the alternative enrollment
as approved by the Supreme Council, and in print shortly thereafter.
Since this application and obligation has the potential to greatly
reduce the number of new members attending enrollment ceremonies, some
basic information about the Moose is incorporated into this new
document. This information is expected to make an applicant aware of,
and hopefully pique their interest to further explore, our beliefs in
caring for young and old, bringing communities closer together and
celebrating life.
Additionally, we want prospective members to realize that there is an
added value to their membership card beyond just being able to access
our lodges' facilities. A portion of the new application is devoted to
generically describe some of the money saving opportunities afforded
Moose members through the Moose Member Benefits Program.
The application design allows for one-third of the tri-fold document to
be separated and retained by the applicant. The applicants' portion
will contain their receipt, as well as the member benefit and
philosophical statements referred to a few moments ago.
How the "Alternative" Enrollment Works
The alternative enrollment is available to applicants of both the
Loyal Order of Moose and the Women of the Moose, on or after August 1,
2007. Both the applicant and their sponsor must complete the new
application, which includes an Obligation of Membership. The completed
and signed application is then presented to the Lodge Administrator or
Chapter Recorder, along with all applicable fees. Applicable fees may
include one or more of these fees - application fee, enrollment fee,
introductory fee, transfer fee, life acceptance fee. The first year's
dues may also be remitted, but are not required at this time.
The Lodge Administrator or Chapter Recorder should immediately enter
the application in their LCL.Net system and transmit the information to
Moose International. The application is then turned over to the
Application Review Committee for their investigation and subsequent
recommendation on acceptance of the applicant. Applications found
acceptable by the Application Review Committee are then presented to the
lodge or chapter membership to vote on at their next regular meeting.
On the date that BOTH a favorable vote has been received from the
lodge or chapter membership AND the applicant's first year's dues have
been received, the Administrator or Recorder shall enter this date as
the applicant's enroll date in LCL.Net and transmit the information to
Moose International. This will complete the enrollment process; begin
the applicant's membership in our Order and trigger the issuance of a
membership card. Applicants will receive their membership cards at
their addresses of record in about three weeks.
While attendance at a ritual-styled enrollment may no longer be required
of new members, the requirement that all members receive an orientation
remains. All new members are required to participate in an orientation.
One group of members who were asked what should be conveyed in a new
member orientation suggested starting by answering the questions that a
new member is likely to have.
When does the lodge or chapter conduct its meetings?
How do I invite my friends to become Moose Members?
What meal functions, sports leagues and other social activities are
available for my family and myself to participate in?
What activities and services do the lodge and/or chapter, do to benefit
their community, and how do I become involved in these activities?
What is the Private Policy and why is it important to the Lodge and our
fraternity?
The group also suggested some specific items that must be mentioned to
every new member.
Every member must be aware that we care for children in need, at our
Child City in Mooseheart, IL and that while a small portion of their
annual dues does support this endeavor; the bulk of the annual operating
budget is secured through the generosity of Moose members' contributions
to Moose Charities.
Similarly, Moosehaven, in Orange Park, FL, is where we care for hundreds
of senior members of our Order, and their spouses, in the twilight of
their lives, which is also only possible due to the generous nature of
Moose members as a whole.
The orientation at your individual lodge or chapter may include
additional information pertinent to your location.
Should either the Application Review Committee or the membership
reject an applicant, the lodge or chapter should refund to the applicant
all fees and dues received, excluding transfer fees, utilizing a lodge
or chapter check. The Membership Department at Moose International
should be contacted to arrange for a credit on the lodge or chapter
monthly account receivable statement. Once an applicant is accepted and
enrolled, no refunds of any fees are permitted in accord with the
changes to the General Laws approved in Orlando.
