Moose Call For New Image During Hamburg Visit

Moose International is not a sportsmen's group. Its antlered emblem
has nothing to do with hunting.
And that Moose Lodge on the corner in many Pennsylvania towns is much
more than a social hangout.
"We're the best kept secret in the world," said Bruce Berger of
Quakertown, who is one of the organization's highest-ranking officials
and also a member of several lodges, including the one in Hamburg.
The secret was let out Sunday.
George W. McCullough III, who as supreme governor is the group's top
official, headlined an event at the lodge on South Third Street, near
State Street, in Hamburg to promote awareness of the Moose
organization's numerous fundraising efforts.
Membership in the fraternal organization has grown to about 1 million,
and there are nearly 2,000 Moose lodges worldwide, mostly in the United
States. Hamburg's is the only one in Berks County.
You might have heard of them. Or maybe you haven't.
"We're not the neighborhood bar," said Berger, the International Moose
Legion president. "There are a lot of misconceptions."
Each Moose lodge has a bar and pool table, but at the heart of the
organization are projects that have raised millions of dollars and
rescued needy children from dire straits.
On Sunday, 15 children from Mooseheart Child City & School, a
Moose-sponsored program in the Chicago area that provides shelter,
education, discipline and religion for those in need, were in Hamburg.
Oumaru Abdulaho, a 16-year-old Mooseheart resident, said he'll forever
be in debt to the organization.
"I'd probably not be in school," he said. "I'd have dropped out, and
would be hanging with the wrong crowd."
Instead, he recently placed third in the high jump at the Illinois state
track and field championships and is excelling in the classroom.
A native of Sierra Leone, Africa, who lost his mother soon after birth
and was living on the street at age 8, Abdulaho plans to attend college
as a criminal justice major.
If he graduates from Mooseheart High School with a grade point average
of at least 3.0, the organization will give him a $36,000 scholarship.
"I owe them a lot," he said.
Founded in 1888, Moose International offers members social clubs and the
chance to participate in events that raise money for projects such as
Mooseheart.
McCullough and several local officials celebrated the cause in Hamburg.
"This is something every community needs," McCullough told a crowd of
more than 100. "This will continue to grow because we meet the needs of
men, women and children."
The key is exposure to the group and understanding what it does, members
agreed.
"The misconceptions started years ago," Berger said.
He pointed to a common, but mistaken view: "Dad would go down to the
Moose, play poker and come home drunk.
"We're trying to get rid of that (misconception), but we just can't seem
to get by it."
Hamburg Fire Company Chief Troy R. Hatt said he was unaware of the
group's purpose even after he joined several years back.
"I didn't truly understand the whole program until the past few months,"
he said. "With all the hustle and bustle of life, not everybody
understands or knows about the Moose."
Perhaps they should, the group's leaders said Sunday.
That will only create more success stories - like Abdulaho's.
"When I grow up, I'm going to be a member," Abdulaho said. "To try and
pay them back." |

Wes Crowder for Supreme Governor
posted 06/07/2010
Dear Lodges, Chapters, Districts, Moose Legions and all Members of the
Virginia Moose Association,
We all should be very proud to have one of our own in line for the
Supreme Governor of the Loyal Order of Moose coming in 2011. Our own
Pilgrim, Wesley Crowder, Secretary of the Virginia Moose Association
will be installed as the Junior Supreme Governor in Nashville, Tennessee
on July 6th and will be elected as our Supreme Governor in Anaheim,
California in July 2011 at the 123rd International Convention..
The Virginia Moose Association is proud to have Wes represent our state
on the Supreme Council and the many duties he has filled during his
forty-seven years as a Moose Member.
The Virginia Moose Association wants to make the Celebration of Wes
Crowder being the Supreme Governor, memorable for Wes Crowder and for
all Moose Members in Virginia. We are planning a great celebration at
both the Anaheim International Convention and the 2011 Annual Convention
of the Virginia Moose Association. We need every unit in Virginia to
make a donation to start the celebration rolling.
We ask that each Unit of our Fraternity in Virginia contribute to the
"WES CROWDER FOR SUPREME GOVERNOR FUND". Donations can be made directly
to the VMA Office or bring a check to our Money March at the Convention
in July 2010.
Each Unit and member donating will be recognized throughout the
Celebration of 2011 and 2012 for our "Wes Crowder for Supreme Governor
Campaign."
We thank you for all you do for our fraternity and we know the
Celebration for Wes Crowder can be the very best our Fraternity has ever
seen.

Brothers.
To have had the opportunity to Represent
and Serve this Association as your President has been an Honor
-- a Privilege -- and a Pleasure.
Brothers, let me assure you that your
Executive Board is very proud of what you do, yes,
we have our challenges from time to time. But by working together we
find a way to overcome them and move forward.
I respectfully submit to you, there
is not a challenge out there that this Association can not only meet,
but will overcome.
This is just one of the reasons the
Virginia Moose Association is always recognized as one of the TOP
Associations in our Fraternity.
This year I have had the pleasure to
make 83 Visitations.
I cannot thank you enough for your
Fellowship and Hospitality.
Each and every one of these visitations
were unique with the exception of one thing, and that is PRIDE --
Brothers, the pride you displayed in your Lodges, your
Celebrations, Functions and Events was
overwhelming. To see that, and be a part of that is something
we will never forget.
Brothers, you notice I said we,
because she was usually their with me, and I thank my lovely wife,
Marie, for all the support she gave me.
In Closing: I would like to Thank the
VMA Executive Board for all there support and guidance, and of course
that includes Ms. Paula our Executive Administrator.
Brothers you have a tremendous Board.
I thank all the Associations Appointed
Officers, Associations Chairman. The District Presidents and Sectaries,
Officers, Committee Chairman and Committee Members for all you have done
and will do. Moose Legion Officers and Legionaries thank you for your
Great service. The Moose Riders you are doing a great job.
Brother Matt, our Regional Manager, and
our Deputy Regional Managers
thank you all for your support and
help.
A big thank you to all
Brother Governors, Administrators and Lodge Officers for doing THE GREAT
WORK you have done and will do.
Brother Governors -- Administrator --
Lodge Officers and All my Brothers
As I have said before, You are the
VMA -- your hard work and Dedication to our
Fraternity, our Association and your LODGEs' is the reason the VMA
enjoys the Great Status it has today. My hat goes off to Each
and Every one of you and I Thank you all.
To the WOTM, thank you for everything
you do.
Brothers, as your President this year ,
My Goal was to always strive to sustain and enhance the
Proud image of the Virginia Moose Association which you and those
that came before us, have worked so hard to shape.
This year was truly Committed and
Dictated to you in an attempt to reach that Goal. I truly hope that I
have lived up to your expectation.
How well I realize that with-out your --
Confidence and Trust in me. I would have never had this
HONORED opportunity. I will never forget that and will be
always grateful to you.
Brothers, I thank you
from the bottom of my heart.
Thank YOU. !!!!!!!!!!!

Do you know of a child that can take advantage of the
benefits at Mooseheart ??
Historically, children have come to Mooseheart because the father, a
member in good standing with the Loyal Order of Moose, passed away.
It is now Mooseheart's policy to admit qualified children who have a
need.
The Admissions Committee considers all applications of children in
need; when and if there are capacity considerations, preference must
obviously be given to those children who are affiliated with the
Moose member families.
The Procedure For Admissions to Mooseheart Child City and School can

Amendments to Fraternity's General Laws
For
Consideration and Vote, July 5 in Nashville
posted 06/04/2010
|
Attached are the 69 proposed
amendments to the Moose Fraternity's Constitution and General Laws,
recommended by the Judiciary Committee and approved by the Supreme
Council.
At the forthcoming 2010
International Moose Convention, the Judiciary Committee will be
present to conduct an Informational Session on these proposed
amendments, at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, in Room 206 of the
Nashville Convention Center -- at which the Committee, under the
direction of Chairman James Chappell PSG, will respond to questions
from interested delegates of the Supreme Lodge (any Lodge
Administrator or Past Governor in attendance).
Then, at 10 a.m. Monday, July
5, in a Supreme Lodge General Session in the Nashville Municipal
Auditorium, the Judiciary Committee will deliver its report and
recommendation, and the Supreme Lodge will vote on whether to accept
this report -- and all proposed amendments. |

Enter
to Learn, Leave to Serve
Whether our seniors have lived at Mooseheart for thirteen
years or only three, when the calendar page flips to the month
of May, butterflies start to swarm inside their stomachs. Will
all the preparation, all the training; all the classroom and
life experiences now come together in a determined focus on
achieving great things in adulthood? Only time will tell, as
these young ladies and men move off into college, military
service and careers. The dreams of a young heart will lead
some to pursue nursing, automotive mechanics or elementary
education and others to join the United States Armed Forces or
study at a technical school. Whatever path they choose, they
move on well equipped to meet the challenges of life with a
faithful Moose fraternity backing them all the way.
The Class of 2010 ‘s senior year officially “kicked-off” at
the Senior Ring Ceremony on Sunday, September 11th at the St.
Charles Moose Lodge No.1368. The final gathering of the
seniors in a formal setting, prior to being onstage together
during the commencement exercises, was on Sunday, May 16th at
the St. Charles Moose Lodge No. 1368 during the Senior Laptop
presentation. How fitting that the first and last significant
activities of the senior class occurred inside the protective
shelter of a Moose Lodge, spending time with their extended
family.
On Saturday, May 22nd, as our seniors reach out to accept
their high school diploma from Board Chair Tommy Hatcher, the
final piece of the puzzle will be in place and the transition
from childhood to adulthood at Mooseheart will be complete.
They have been taught that it is far greater to give than to
receive – a message that the members of the Moose fraternity
model for our children every day of the year. The members of
the Class of 2010 will now have the opportunity to enjoy the
independence of adulthood and help bear the responsibility of
citizenship. Citizenship that calls us to stand up for what is
right and true and just. To pitch in and lead by example when
others only what to lend their voice. To respect their elders
and to help those who are less fortunate. In all things, in
all manners and in all situations, continue to live by the
Mooseheart Motto, “Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve.”
Congratulations to the Class of 2010!

MOOSE WEB Breakthrough
"Moose Pages" Debuts As Easy-to-Use Template
for Moose Websites with Free Server Space
posted 12/01/2009
 |
As of December 1, Moose
International has an answer to Lodge/Chapter, Moose Legion and
Association leaders who either lack the funds to pay for assembly and
server space for a Website, or who feel they have no one with enough
“tech savvy” to assemble and maintain a site.
It’s MoosePages – a new Website content-management
system, more than a year in development from the Moose International
Department of Information Systems, and being serviced through the
Department of Communications & Public Affairs.
With MoosePages, anyone with enough computer knowledge
to just click a mouse, and write and send an e-mail, can maintain and
update a simple Website for their Lodge/Chapter*, Moose Legion or
Association! There’s no need to register – or pay for – a domain name.

The office of
the General Governor reserves the right to advise the Department of
Fraternal Programs not to grant a Premier Lodge Award to a lodge, even
if the lodge has met the prescribed criteria. Reasons for a lodge to be
refused by the General Governor's office include, but are not limited
to, the following:
• Lodge was
delinquent in payments to Moose International (ex. - monthly
consolidated statement, risk pool premiums, catalog sales invoices)
• Lodge was
delinquent in paying or did not pay premiums for workers' compensation
insurance
• Lodge did
not seek or acquire approval of dispensation as required by the
General Laws of the Order
If a lodge is
refused the Premier Lodge Award at the recommendation of the General
Governor, the lodge can appeal the decision. The appeal must be approved
by the General Governor before the Department of Fraternal Programs will
proceed with verifying that the necessary criteria are met. |

HISTORY OF THE MOOSE INTERNATIONAL
R. ROBERT DALE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
R. Robert Dale served as Secretary/Administrator of
St. Charles, IL Lodge 1368. He was devoted to the Moose fraternity, its
precepts and endeavors. He never married; never became a father.
His sister married into a modest degree of wealth, but she never had
children either. Following the death of her husband, she and
Robert named each other in their wills.
Robert survived her – but only by a few months.
Robert Dale died on August 15, 1983 leaving an estate of more than $2
million, to be divided equally between the Veterans of Foreign Wars
National Home and the Loyal Order of Moose, both for the purpose of
providing scholarships.
Robert wanted to do a beautiful, unselfish, and divine
act. In 1985, Director General Paul O’Hollaren and the Supreme
Council approved that the interest from the Dale Scholarship Fund was to
be used for Moose members’ children who had graduated from high school,
to further their higher education, and the R. Robert Dale Scholarship
Program was created.
As of spring 2007, some 1,188 high school seniors,
living in households headed by a member of either the Loyal Order of
Moose or Women of the Moose, have benefited from Dale Scholarships –
totaling $1,188,000 since the program’s inception.
Applicants for the program must be high-school juniors
with a grade-point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. They are
eligible only if their mother, father, or legal guardian is a member of
the Moose in good standing. (One eligible application per
student).
Any state or provincial Moose Association with 15 to
45 or more eligible applicants (based on Association membership) may
draw for at least one R. Robert Dale Scholarship winner. A Moose
Lodge and Chapter can also win a bonus Scholarship for one of their
eligible students on their own combined list, if they reach 25 eligible
applicants.
The Scholarship may be used for tuition, books, and
fees at any accredited vocational or academic institution the winner
chooses to attend. |
